Current Events | Manhattanhenge

Twice a year, the setting sun aligns perfectly with the grid of New York City, illuminating the city's streets in a rare and beautiful light. Fondly known as Manhattanhenge, its second appearance of the year can be seen this weekend, Friday (July 12th) and Saturday (July 13th). If you're in Manhattan, don't forget to stop and take a look down any crosstown street around 8:20pm.

If you'd like to know more about this unique urban phenomenon (you rock), Neil deGrasse Tyson and the American Museum of Natural History have you covered.

Modes of Transport | the Faraday

How darling is this electric(!) bicycle?  A classic design with a modern boost makes the Faraday Porteur a lovely way to get around town.  Check out their kickstarter to learn more (and for a peek at a few of our favorite spots around San Francisco).

ADVENTURES in Monterey

The two of us took a quick trip to Monterey, last week.  We saw meteors as we drove and debated whether science refutes God (probably).  In the morning, we walked to Cannery Row and found a lovely little beach up the coast.

Sugar-coated NIGHTLIFE

Kate and I wanted to have a night out before she flew home, next week.  We thought an evening of science & chocolate just might suffice.

A peek at Tennessee Valley

One of my absolute favorite things about living in Marin is never being far from a good place to hike.  For us, more often than not, that place is Tennessee Valley.

Be right back, San Francisco

I'm taking a quick trip to Los Angeles to visit my dearest friend and celebrate our first Halloween together on the west coast.  I have the start of a Mary Poppins costume and a recipe for blackberry meyer lemon gin & tonics, at the ready, and cannot wait to explore!

In the meantime, I will trust my hearts to San Francisco and appreciate the safety of our loved ones, near and far.  The stories and images pouring out of the Northeast have been heartbreaking -- I hope that wherever you are, you are safe and warm.

If you are in a position to do so, please consider making a donation to the Red Cross relief efforts.

Tea time at Samovar

Samovar Tea Lounge is a small chain of three teahouses in San Francisco -- their vision: "to change the world one cup of tea at a time." They house an impressive array of loose teas and complementary cuisine from around the world, paying particular care to traditional presentation and experience.
